I had a deep awakening during these lockdowns. And, I feel like I went through many different phases. Over and over. One of the many things that I realized was that I am grateful to even be alive, have food and have my health.

You could say that this made me go back to basics and start all over again in many aspects of my life. Over the years, I had followed a few celebrities out of a shallow sense of self. And, as I have shed this aspect fo myself there is no need to follow people who represent the antithesis of what I want to embody.

When I saw many of them speak about us going through an equalizer, I grew angry at the thought that a lot of them who live luxuriously would even equate our lives to theirs. Especially when a video dropped of a few of them singing ‘imagine’ by John Lennon. I was actually quite disgusted by the sense of superiority that I felt coming from many of them. It reminded me of Marie Antoinette’s infamous saying, ‘Let them eat cake!’

I have always been a believer in transforming negative energy into something more and I did. I made a decision to leave the shallow world behind and unfollow those who were boasting superficial pictures of themselves or merely being insensitive.

Here are 3 reasons why I unfollowed many celebrities during the lockdowns:

1. It was bringing me down.

I have repeatedly said how difficult last year was for me. So, I took control of my life. I decided to shed my life of fake things and people. I don’t want to blame them for being in my life but I decided to release them because they no longer had a purpose in my life.

I let go of a few people and cleansed my social media so that it represented me and what I want to reflect into The World. I am done being bombarded with booty pics or shallow aspects of The World when I want to align myself with real.

2. It wasn’t contributing anything to my life.

One specific celebrity I unfollowed because they were posting to demonize people who vote differently to them. I felt anxiety from that energy on my phone so I decided to cleanse it.

I will never be for being against another because of who they decide to vote for. It is just not me to do so. I am not above anyone and no one is above me so no one has the authority to tell others how they should live their life. We can guide and communicate. But, communication involves listening as well as speaking- many forget that.

3. I want to celebrate talent not a lifestyle.

I don’t want to judge some people for showing off their private planes and women entourage or naked selfies. But, for me, there is so much more to life. I am more interested in connections with people, loving and being at peace with who I am.

As someone who grew up in the music world, I love to celebrate talent and authenticity. However, flaunting a lifestyle to millions of people has never been my cup of tea. When we are superficial, we attract others who are that way. So, unfollowing celebrities was a way of releasing that fake world from my energetic sphere and diving deeper into more meaningful things and people.
